What if Kamala Harris Had Won?

The old cliche goes that a week is a long time in politics, and if that's true, then the last year feels like centuries, doesn't it? Hard as it may be to believe now, but exactly a year ago, Kamala Harris was running Donald Trump neck and neck in the polls, and while Trump's margin of victory would ultimately be comfortable, it very nearly wasn't.

In the three tipping point states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, Harris was within 1.7 points of victory, as the now defunct site 538 explained in the aftermath, quote, if Harris had won those three states, plus all the states and districts she actually did win, she would have gotten exactly 270 electoral college votes.

In other words, a swing of just 1.8% in three northern states would have allowed Harris to do what Trump did in 2016, claim the presidency despite losing the popular vote. Now, we could discuss all day how likely that ever was.
